Delaney Hawkins cracked the Top 100 freshman list at No. 79. That is a big deal for a Coug who just got here. It is also the kind of recognition that does not happen by accident. Hawkins has been putting in work since she stepped on campus, and the national rankings are starting to notice.
The list is crowded with names from programs that have been doing this longer. Hawkins is in there anyway. That says something about the talent coming out of Pullman right now. It also says something about the staff seeing what they had early and letting her cook.
We have been tracking her season. If you missed it, check out "Delaney Hawkins grabs Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week: no surprise." That headline aged well. The conference noticed her before the national list did. Now the rest of the country is catching up.
No. 79 is a starting point, not a finish line. Hawkins is the kind of player who will look at that number and want to move up. Good. That is the attitude that built this program. Go Cougs.
