Soccer's back on the Palouse for a Sunday date with the Dogs
Sunday. Palouse. The Dogs. That's the whole sentence you need if you're a Coug who's been waiting for soccer to feel like it matters again.
Washington State hosts Washington this weekend in what should be a proper, grudge-match afternoon. No conference realignment talk needed, no caveats about what league anybody is in now. Just two programs that don't like each other, kicking off on the same pitch in Pullman, where the grass is still green and the wind is probably already doing something annoying.
This is the kind of game that reminds you why you stayed up late refreshing the box score from a living room in Seattle or Portland or wherever you ended up. The Cougs have had their moments this season, but Sunday is a chance to make a statement that travels beyond the soccer-specific stadium and into the broader conversation about where this program is headed. You don't need a hype video for this one. You need a full 90 minutes of controlled aggression.
If you want to know how the defense has been holding up, go read "Second-half snaps tell the story of WSU's defensive breakdowns." It's the kind of film-room honesty that matters more than a highlight reel. But for now, clear your Sunday. Get the coffee going. Find a stream or make the drive. This is a rivalry game, and it's in our backyard.
Go Cougs.
