It's nice to see the bus leave Pullman again. The Pac-12 volleyball season is starting, and that means Bohler Gym gets loud, the floor gets sticky, and a whole new set of Cougs get to prove they belong. We've already seen what the conference has in store for the next couple years, Pac-12 lays out 2026-27 women's hoops schedule for our Cougs made that clear for the basketball side, and now it's volleyball's turn to load up and go. This isn't a preseason hype piece. This is the real start of something that matters to anyone who's ever sat in those bleachers and felt the floor shake.

If you've been paying attention, you already know Bohler is back in business. Bohler's Back in Business: Pac-12 Volleyball Slate Drops for the Cougs told us the schedule, and now the team has to go earn it on the road. That's the part we don't talk about enough. Pullman is a fortress when the conference comes to town, but winning on the road is a different animal. It means sleeping in hotels, eating cold bus food, and playing in front of crowds that don't care about the Palouse. This team has to be tougher than the travel. That's the takeaway: the season doesn't really start when the first serve goes up in Bohler. It starts when you win a match in a gym where nobody knows your name.

What we're watching for is how fast this group finds its identity. There's a rhythm to a good road trip, the first match is always tight, the second is where you either settle in or fall apart. Two quick strikes before the break were all Pullman needed reminded us that sometimes all it takes is a couple of decisive moments to flip the whole feel of a season. Volleyball is like that. One rally, one block that changes momentum, and suddenly you're not just a team passing through. You're a team that can win anywhere. That's the kind of Coug energy that makes the drive worth it.

The specific thing to watch is how the fresh faces handle the first road test. Not the scoreboard. Not the final record. Watch the body language after a bad call or a lost point. That tells you more than any preseason ranking ever will. If they come off the bus loose and ready, Pullman will have a squad worth following all fall. If not, well, there's always next year. But we've seen enough Coug volleyball to know this group usually figures it out before the bus gets back to the 509. Go Cougs.
