That was a gut-check, and the Cougs passed it with a lid on. Down two sets in Boise and staring at a flat loss, Washington State volleyball did not fold. They reversed the sweep and punched back at the Broncos. That is the kind of win that tells you more about a team than a breezy sweep ever could. Going on the road in a midweek series, getting pushed to the edge, and then refusing to lose is what separates clubs that fade in November from clubs that play deep into December.
It helps when you have already seen what this group looks like away from Bohler. The team Cougs hit the road and left an impression on Boise State earlier this season, and that experience of playing in a hostile gym clearly paid off. Familiarity matters on the Palouse because we don't get fake home crowds on the road. You have to earn your composure. They earned it here. Now consider what is coming: Volleyball hits the road for Boise then hosts Fresno State in the same week. That schedule is a truck driver's grind, and the Fresno match is suddenly a whole lot more interesting. If the Cougs carry this momentum back to Pullman, that crowd is going to be loud.
Here is what sticks with us. This team did not need to be perfect to win. They did not play clean volleyball for two sets. They were out of system, maybe pressing a little. And then they just decided not to lose. That is a trait you cannot teach in practice. It comes from a locker room that believes in itself. We will be watching how they handle the quick turnaround. Boise State is not going to forget being reversed on its home floor, and conference road environments only get louder from here. But after what we just saw, it is fair to wonder if this team is building something bigger than a single series. Go Cougs.
