Hike to Musala (2925m) in the Rila Mountains. The highest peak in Bulgaria.

| Some photos from a hike I did 3 years ago in the Rila Mountains to the highest peak in Bulgaria - Musala at 2925 meters. My parents live about 20 minutes from Borovets, so it's really easy to reach for me when I'm visiting. I'm not really an experienced hiker so I cheated a bit and took the gondola from Borovets at around 1300m to Yastrabets at about 2400m, which takes about 20 minutes. From there it's a really beautiful hike towards the top. Pretty early in the hike you pass a hotel near a small lake where you can also eat or drink something. The hike is pretty easy, although towards the end it gets a bit steeper. Just before the final climb to the top there is a shed that sells some drinks and snacks. Overall it takes about 3 hours one-way. Definitely a recommended hike if you ever find yourself in Bulgaria. [link] [comments] |
