New nonprofit rehoming commercial hens to adopters in Maryland

| Hi everyone — I saw a few posts recently from folks in this sub wishing there were more options for rehoming ex-commercial laying hens in the US, so I wanted to share something we’ve just started. I run a new nonprofit called HenPals Network, and we rehome laying hens at the end of their commercial cycle into backyard homes as pets. We recently held our first rehoming event last month and placed 224 hens into adoptive homes locally. We’re preparing for our next event on May 2 in Boyds, Maryland. We’re also proud to be the first international affiliate of the British Hen Welfare Trust, which has rehomed over a million hens in the UK. Longer term, the goal is to expand state by state so more people across the US have access to this kind of rehoming pathway. If you’re not local but are interested in what we’re doing, we’d genuinely love to hear from you as we plan where to go next and begin to build our wider network of adopters and volunteers. Happy to answer questions if helpful! [link] [comments] |
