Should I change nail techs?
Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some advice!
I’m 27F in the UK and fairly new to getting my nails done (only started last year). I’ve been going to the same salon since I started, mainly because my mum and I can go together and we enjoy the experience. They introduced me to BIAB and my nails have actually been able to grow, which I love.
The issue is they’ve been cancelling on me quite a bit recently. I understand things happen, but I ended up going about 6 weeks without an appointment (I usually go every 4).
So today I tried a different place, and it turned out the nail tech used to work at my regular salon but is now self-employed.
While doing my nails, she mentioned a few concerns about how my nails were looking. She said there was some lifting and that my nails were too white/didn’t look as healthy as they could be. I’m still a beginner with all this, so I didn’t fully understand everything she meant.
She wasn’t rude about my usual salon, but she did say she doesn’t like how they do certain things and that it can feel rushed, which might explain the issues she was pointing out. She also REALLY didn’t like the clear BIAB base that they used on me/ she had to remove. Said she hadn’t seen it before so she was very concerned.
So I am unsure because I don’t know if she was making stuff up to stop me from going back because I don’t understand what she saying?
But for extra context, both my mum and I have had minor issues before (like lifting/moisture or over-filing), but we assumed that was just something that occasionally happens.
I do enjoy my usual salon and have had good experiences overall, but between the cancellations and what this new tech said, I’m starting to feel unsure.
The new tech didn’t pressure me to switch to her, just gave some general advice for next time.
So I’m a bit stuck:
Do I keep going to my usual salon since I like them overall? Try this new tech instead? Or look for somewhere completely new?
Would really appreciate any thoughts or experiences. Thanks!
