Egypt - Road to Abu Simbel

Hello!

I have a rental car in Egypt and maybe I will drive down to Aswan. Previously I had the plan to also visit Abu Simbel then (by car). However, from someone I have heard that travelling between Aswan and Abu Simbel is only possible in one of two scheduled convoys a day at the moment. Does anyone know if this is correct or what is the status? Otherwise I would probably visit in on an other trip by plane or so.
